Branden Powers, the self-styled Wizard of BadAssary (and owner) of the Golden Tiki and Evel Pie, says CrunCheese is the best local iteration of an increasingly popular style of food.
“If you love Korean street food – or want to love Korean street food – this is THE place for the best Korean hot dogs in town,” he said. “My personal favorite is the Squid Ink Hot Dog. Just the right amount of salty, savory yumminess!”
The Squid Ink dog is coated in a characteristically black batter, as well as the signature crunchy bits that adorn most of the dogs, including the original, the premium-beef dog, mozzarella and sausage or cheddar and sausage combinations and mozzarella or cheddar only, separately or together. Or you can get your dog – or melty mozzarella – further crusted in crunchy bits of potato.
CrunCheese also offers options to add squid-ink batter, potatoes or sweet potatoes to any dog or cheese log, so you can create your own FrankenDog.

So she and her partner drove the hour from Topeka to Overland Park, Kansas, to try Korean corn dogs, the batter-dipped meat or cheese on a stick, often dusted with sugar, ramen noodles, puffed rice or an increasing arms race of toppings and sauces.
Although squid ink isn't poisonous, it may carry some risks. Eating foods made with squid ink can cause an allergic reaction similar to seafood allergy. If you have a shellfish or squid allergy, avoid any foods with squid ink.
Cephalopods use their ink to scare or distract predators so they can escape before being seen (or eaten). The ink is ejected from the ink sac within the cephalopod's body. The ink is made of melanin and mucus. Melanin is also in humans and is responsible for the color of our hair and skin.
Korean corn dogs became popular in South Korea during the 1980s. Filled with rice and fish cakes, they were the perfect snack for the bustling cities, where people would buy them at train stations and bus parks before heading to their destinations.
Glutinous rice flour: Glutinous rice flour gives the dough a little bit of chewiness while making it crispier and lighter. Granulated sugar: Sugar adds sweetness to the coating. This is typical of the Korean corn dog.
Gourmets will say that squid ink tastes and smells with the sea. To be more precise, the flavor of squid ink is close to the flavor of fresh sea fish with some umami hints. To remember umami flavor, think of soy sauce or blue cheese.
Squid Ink Powder is used to colour any dishes such as pasta, ramen noodles, curry dishes and has been used widely since the old days for colouring food black.
Squid ink is known for its strong and unique flavor profile. Therefore, adding squid ink to the pasta dough creates a much more intricate and complex dish. The ink has a unique taste known as umami which enhances the overall taste of the pasta, giving it a subtle seafood flavor without being overpowering.
