Schiedam is a city and municipality in the province of South-Holland in the Netherlands and is part of the Rotterdam metropolitan area. The city is best known for Jenever (gin), its historical centre and the tallest old windmills in the world.

Schiedam is famous for its gin and liquor distilleries, and it is a major shipbuilding centre. It also has a wide range of manufactures and service industries. There is a municipal museum.

The port of Rotterdam is a major international hub and a symbol of trade, innovation and maritime history. As one of the largest ports in the world, a boat tour around the harbour or a visit to the Maritime Museum Rotterdam is definitely recommended.

The history of the city of Schiedam goes back to the 13th century. A dam was probably built around 1230 near the mouth of the Schie to protect the polder land against seawater. In 1275 city rights were granted.

Dutch (ダッチ, Datchi) is the African American leader of the Lagoon Company and captain of the ex-U.S. Navy PT boat Black Lagoon. Age 40–50, he is a former Marine who fought in the Vietnam War. Shortly before the war ended (presumably in 1973), Dutch went AWOL, escaping to Thailand to work as a mercenary.

Holland Road was known colloquially in the Hokkien dialect as hue hng au, meaning “behind the flower garden”, due to its close proximity to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
